Deepway Fleet Reaches 10,000 Electric Trucks Milestone

November 2025 Newsletter Highlights

Major Fleet Achievement

Deepway's electric truck fleet has reached a significant milestone of 10,000 units in operation, collectively accumulating nearly 400 million kilometers of zero-emission transport. The latest models feature advanced SL front axles and are operating on HPMV permits.

A notable trial is underway with Foodstuffs NI, utilizing their Fairfax electric quad refrigerated trailer for zero-emissions cold chain transport, demonstrating the versatility of electric heavy-duty vehicles in specialized applications.

Charging Infrastructure Advances

Recent advancements in charging technology showcase the rapid progress in infrastructure development. Dual-gun charging systems are now operational, with demonstrations in Turangi achieving impressive 320kW input capacity. This translates to approximately 200km of loaded range added within just one hour of charging time.

Mountain Performance Trial

In a remarkable demonstration of capability, an E1400 model successfully completed an expedition equivalent to climbing New Zealand's Mt. Cook and descending on a single charge. This achievement highlights the substantial mountain hauling capability of modern electric trucks in challenging terrain.

Equipment Innovation

XCMG has launched several groundbreaking equipment options:

  • The hybrid XC988HEV wheel loader now costs less than its diesel counterpart at $488,000 NZD
  • Operating cost comparisons reveal significant savings: diesel at $36.80/hour, hybrid at $23.20/hour, and electric at just $9.60/hour
  • A revolutionary XC928 wheel loader eliminates hydraulics entirely, utilizing electric actuators instead
  • The XC968EV three-motor loader has secured orders for New Zealand's waste sector
  • A 4.4-tonne telehandler is being shipped to Fiji for resort construction

Market Leadership

XCMG's strong market performance continues with 3,149 heavy battery-electric vehicles sold in October alone, capturing 18% of the Chinese market share. The E700 maintains its position as the number one selling heavy electric truck globally.

Energy Economics

Solar pricing in New Zealand has dropped significantly below alternative energy sources, creating new opportunities for cost-effective EV fleet operations and further improving the economic case for electric vehicle adoption.
